Why This Is Important

The United States is the only Western Country to have not Ratified The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women and The Convention on the Rights of the Child. Presidents Carter and Regan created most of the directives, and in 1995, Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright signed both Convention. However, President Clinton failed to bring it before the Senate for discussion about ratification. President Obama has declared this to be "embarrassing" and has promised to review the situation.

Taking steps to End Human Trafficking

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing today to ask that the U.S. Government finish what began decades ago when Presidents Carter and Regan helped to form the following : The Convention on the Rights of the Child and The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women. Both were signed by Secretary Albright in 1995. However, it has not been ratified! The U.S. remains the only Western Country to have not ratified these treaties.

I am demanding that the State Department and the Senate work together to rectify this issue. As long as these treaties remain as they are, we cannot hope to think any nation will take us seriously to End Human Trafficking and Slavery. It is not enough to have only signed these treaties. We must keep our word that this nation is determined to stop ALL forms of trafficking and slavery, and ratification can be our first real step to show the world our commitment to join them in ending the blight of human slavery once and for all.
