The Kentucky Farm Bureau is one of Kentucky's largest property and casualty insurance providers in the state. Their mission is to help Kentucky farmers achieve a healthy livelihood, and create a climate where agriculture can succeed.

So why is the Kentucky Farm Bureau adopting policies that are homophobic and demonizing toward the LGBT community?

According to the Kentucky Fairness Campaign, the Kentucky Farm Bureau has adopted formal positions against gay marriage, against domestic partnership benefits, and against recognizing LGBT parents in schools. What do these positions have to do with promoting agriculture?

They don't, and as a large institution in Kentucky, the Kentucky Farm Bureau shouldn't have these policies on their books. Send the Kentucky Farm Bureau a note, joining in the call to get them to discard these discriminatory and unjust positions.

Please remove anti-gay positions from the Kentucky Farm Bureau's Policy Manual

Dear Kentucky Farm Bureau

I recently became aware that in the ""2009 Kentucky Farm Bureau Policies" manual, your organization has taken some anti-gay and homophobic positions. Among these positions include opposition to marriage equality, opposition to domestic partnership benefits for same-sex couples, and opposition to recognizing LGBT parents, particularly if those parents have children in Kentucky's schools.

These positions are unacceptable, and certainly call in to question the role and focus of the Kentucky Farm Bureau. Your mission statement says that you're focused on creating a thriving agricultural climate for Kentucky farmers. But these anti-gay positions have nothing to do with agriculture, and only serve to divide citizens, and demonize an entire population of people.

I urge you to remove these positions from the Kentucky Farm Bureau's policy manual, and instead focus on creating a climate in Kentucky where agriculture -- not homophobia -- can thrive.

Thank you for your time.
