In a last minute vote, Hawaii's State House of Representatives approved a bill that will extend civil unions to both same-sex and opposite-sex couples in the Aloha State. This is a monumental step forward for equality, and will allow gay and lesbian couples in Hawaii the chance to receive many of the same benefits that heterosexual couples receive through marriage.

Governor Linda Lingle now has about six weeks to decide whether to sign this bill into law, or veto it. If she vetos the bill, it will almost suredly be the end of the road for civil unions legislation. Demand that Gov. Linda Lingle stand up for equal rights in Hawaii, and sign this civil unions bill into law.

Please Sign Hawaii's Civil Unions Bill Into Law

Dear Gov. Linda Lingle,

Hawaii's State House has recently passed legislation that would create a civil unions system for recognizing same-sex relationships in the Aloha State. I urge you to support this legislation, and sign it into law.

Civil unions will not redefine marriage, like many opponents argue, but instead allow the government to recognize the dignity of Hawaii's gay and lesbian community, and extend to them a measure of equality when it comes to equal benefits under the law.

Moreover, civil unions are supported by more than two-thirds of all Americans.

Please sign this bill into law, and help Hawaii take a step in the right direction toward equality.

Thank you.
