Right now workers earn around 45 cents for each 32 pound bucket of tomatoes they pick. That's just 1.4 cents per pound of tomatoes, and the price hasn't changed in nearly 30 years! 

That's why the Coalition of Immokalee Workers is asking that 4 major supermarkets follow in the footsteps of the fast food and foodservice industries and agree to improve working conditions of those that grow and pick our food. 

You can help by sending a letter to Ahold (the company that owns Stop & Shop and Giant), Publix, Kroger, and Trader Joe's corporate offices urging them to sign an agreement with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers.

I have just learned that the workers who pick your company's tomatoes earn just 1.4 cents per pound of tomatoes they pick, and that that price hasn't changed in nearly 30 years! Florida agricultural workers are some of the most exploited workers in this country, facing poverty level wages and, in extreme cases are held against their will to work as modern-day slaves.

That is why I am urging your company to work with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), an internationally recognized farmworker organization, in an agreement that would help address some of these issues.

The agreement would leverage your buying power to help these workers by agreeing to buy tomatoes from responsible farms and paying just 1 cent more per pound of tomatoes. Please help those that make your business possible.
