The Stupak/Pitts amendment in the House health care bill rolls back women's reproductive rights by prohiting any government-run plans or those receiving federal subsidies from offering abortion coverage -- even if women are paying the bulk of the plan out-of-pocket. This would essentially bar women from accessing comprehensive private insurance with abortion coverage, the biggest assault we've seen on Roe. v. Wade in years, and particularly harmful to low-income women.

The final chance to protect women's rights is when the House bill is reconciled with the Senate bill (which protects women's reproductive rights). Tell your Congressperson that discriminatory, anti-choice Stupak language must NOT appear in the final health care bill.

Anti-Choice Stupak Language Must NOT Appear in Final Health Care Bill

Dear Congressperson,

The Stupak/Pitts amendment represent an unconscionable assault on women's reproductive rights. It significantly infringes upon women's legal right to abortion by denying coverage in health insurance, trying to restrict rights through the back door.

It particularly discriminatory against low-income women, making reproductive rights a prerogative only of those who can afford to pay out-of-pocket. Even when women are paying the bulk of their insurance plan themselves, coverage is denied. This is unacceptable. Women deserve comprehensive health care -- and that includes abortion.

When it comes time to reconcile the House bill with the Senate bill (which has taken a stand in rejecting attacks on reproductive rights), make sure discriminatory, anti-choice Stupak language disappears. Health care reform is vital, but it must really be comprehensive coverage for all.

Take a stand for women's reproductive rights. Stupak language must not appear in the final health care bill.
