SB 97 - Health above Politics
Dear,
Please support Senate Bill 97, Cultural Competency is good for Oregon. SB 97 enjoys strong bipartisan support, and starts an important statewide conversation between health care industry, licensing boards, and community based organizations to develop appropriate content and standards to support health professionals "do no harm".
While SB 97 failed the full House on May 18th, we urge your support of the Motion to Reconsider and the vote on SB 97 on Thursday May 19th on the House floor. Our coalition leaders are in the capitol today, and are available to speak with Representatives who have questions. We also seek a compromise solution to ensure SB 97 passes.
SB 97 is a step in the right direction, improving provider-patient communication which lowers misdiagnosis, incorrect treatment, and ultimately health care costs. SB 97 is a racial equity and health equity tool, to help us address Oregon's persistent racial disparities among Latino, African-American, Asian, Pacific Islander and Native American communities. 50+ organizations have endorsed SB 97, and hundreds of community members have become engaged around this issue.
Please support SB 97 on the House Floor May 19th.
