I recently learned that consumer gas cans used to safely transport and store gasoline will soon be in short supply. This presents significant public safety concerns that merit your immediate attention. In order to stabilize the portable fuel container manufacturing industry, I urge you to support H.R. 1456. This bill, introduced by Rep. Tom Cole, would amend the Children’s Gasoline Burn Prevention Act by mandating safety standards for this vital product, protecting both consumers and manufacturers.

Without safe, portable fuel containers, consumers would be forced to resort to discarded containers to transport gasoline — reversing 30 years of progress in consumer safety. Access to safe, affordable containers has significantly reduced the number of accidents associated with home and recreational uses of gasoline — and it is particularly critical in times of emergency. I urge you to take action to prevent a break in the supply chain and support H.R. 6065.
