While the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 (HR 2749) is a step in the right direction to protect sustainable farming and wildlife habitat, it does not address the underlying causes of America's persistent food safety crisis: factory farms and chemical-intensive agriculture.  Most food poisoning epidemics over the past decades have been the direct result of factory farm pollution through water and soil. Factory farms also endanger human health by practices that encourage antibiotic-resistant organisms and spread viruses and pathogens such as Swine Flu and Bird Flu.

Congress, Please, Regulate Factory Farms

Dear Representative

Hi. As you may be aware, while the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009 (HR 2749) is a step in the right direction to protect sustainable farming and wildlife habitat, it does not address the underlying causes of America's persistent food safety crisis: factory farms and chemical-intensive agriculture. Most food poisoning epidemics over the past decades have been the direct result of factory farm pollution through water and soil. Factory farms also endanger human health by practices that encourage antibiotic-resistant organisms and spread viruses and pathogens such as Swine Flu and Bird Flu. I urge you to oppose HR 2749 unless it is amended to mandate major sanitation requirements for and regulation of factory farms. Thanx. Goodbye.

Matutinally Yours,
