Close Private Immigration Prisons, Prohibit Private Prisons From Influencing Candidates
The Issue
Wells Capital, a company owned by Wells Fargo, is one of the largest investor in GEO Group, a private prison. The company makes over $130 a DAY for every immigrant they hold in thie lovely jail.
At the same time, GEO Group is active in advocating for new prisons, more beds, etc. We think the private prisons should stay out of politics! If our local leaders want to pay $5 billion a year in rent, fine, but they should not do it after getting contributions from GEO Group!
Let's pass a law which prohibits private prisons from having ANYTHING to do with candidates. They must remain mum on issues revolving around new prisons or more beds. If the governement wants this nefarious kind of business, then let government come to GEO, but GEO should not be lobbying for anything!
Rather tihan alert tax-payers of the true cost of imprisoning thousands of people every year, the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is paying high rent to private companies like GEO in Colorado and CCC (Corrections Corporation of America). These private companies often contribute to conservative candidates who they urge to pass laws requiring the imprisonment of more people, hence making more money! Some large banks have been attributed with owning large percentages of these companies including Wells Fargo Bank.
Please sign this petition and let's:
1. Make it illegal for private prison companies to make political contributions or contribute to political action committees;\
2. Disclose the true cost of private prisons;
3. Advocate for a rational solution to our immigration problems through immigration reform and the Dream Act!
Please sign this petition and tell the government to stop wasting tax payer dollars, and to stop the imprisonment of thousands of people who pose no harm to society! Let's stop private prison companies from advocating for more laws to make more prisoners!
