Why This Is Important

The U.S. Senate needs to hear from you, me and all constituents right now about the need to prioritize clean energy legislation this year.  The current proposed legislation is doing more harm than good.

For example:

Presently, the legislation promotes a litany of toxic and dangerous false solutions, that includes nuclear power, "clean coal," domestic oil and gas drilling, "biomass" incineration and schemes that would damage forests.

It also strips EPA authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and replaces it with a weak prone-to-manipulation market-based scheme with inadequate targets for greenhouse gas reductions.

We need to educate ourselves, disseminate the information to others, and be active.

Protect our Climate! Vote NO. Do Better!

Greetings,

I am deeply concerned about climate change. Recent projections from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and others suggest that we are on track for a catastrophic 5-7 degrees of warming by the end of this century, a death sentence for much of humanity and many other species. In March, the National Science Foundation warned that methane emissions from thawing of the Arctic Shelf are "much larger and faster than anticipated."

It is imperative that we move beyond 'politics as usual' and take extraordinary measures to secure a safe future for our planet. The Kerry-Graham-Lieberman bill is no such measure, and is entirely inadequate. Its targets are far, far too weak, and it wastes precious time and resources on risky, expensive and unproven false solutions like carbon capture and sequestration, bioenergy, more offshore drilling and nuclear power.

Not only will this fail to get us on track to a safe future, this bill will actually make things worse and block real progress by crippling the Environmental Protection Agency and preempting state measures.

I hope you will vote in good conscience on behalf of our future by voting AGAINST this bill and then demanding one that is far stronger and stands a chance of averting disaster. History will honor your wisdom in taking a strong position on this issue.
