Greetings,

Almost 1 in 5 Arizona children live in households struggling with hunger. This is unacceptable. We should provide every child with the opportunity to succeed and this means having enough healthy food to eat. Knowing of the fundamental role you will play in setting federal priorities, and as a resident of Arizona, I’m asking you to provide a significant increase of at least $1 billion a year in the amount of funding available for the reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Programs. This is a necessary down payment towards achieving President Obama’s goal of ending childhood hunger by 2015, because it will:

• Improve access to School Lunch and Breakfast;
• Expand the Supper Program proven to be successful in 13 other states;
• Provide “3rd meal” options for Child Care and After School Programs;
• Support more flexible options and reduce area eligibility for Summer Food, Child Care homes and After School Programs;
• Continue critical support for WIC, and
• Ensure snacks and meals are available to hungry children when school is out of session

Ultimately, no one should be hungry, especially children. We’re counting on you.
