Terminate Cleveland Police Officers Matthew Craska and David Mindek
The Issue
These 2 officers broke many policies and procedures of the Cleveland Police Dept. on the evening of July 3, 2011 and early morning of July 4, 2011. Their actions resulted in the death of Daniel Ficker, a 27 year old man, at his own home in Parma, Ohio. Even County Prosecutor Brian McDonnough said the Daniel Ficker would be here today if this would not have happened. Daniel was UNARMED, and trying to walk into his house from his car when the 2 Cleveland Police Officers approached him on his property, and Officer Craska shot and killed him. The officers left their city(Cleveland) and did not notify the City of Parma, as a courtesy, letting them know that their were going into their city. Although they had permission from Cleveland to leave the city, was the person who gave them authorization aware of the fact that the alleged victim, "Dave Mindek" was present with Matthew Craska in the crusier, and going to check out his own crime? Was Dave Mindek acting as a victim that night or a police officer? Dave Mindek should have NEVER been allowed to go to Dan Ficker's house that evening. He should have called and filed a police report as any other victim of a crime would. He is not above the law, as he acted, when he called an old friend on a cell phone and asks him to handle the situation. Nothing good was going to happen after that! They acted above the law. Craska, who was on duty, picked up Mindek at his house, who was off duty, and drove to Daniel's house. They accused him of stealing jewelry from Mindek's house, based on allegations by Kim Mindek, Dave's wife. Craska roughed him up first, beat him with over 30 visible bruises on his body, then shot and killed him in the left arm pit just inches from his side door. Mindek did very little to help, and then fled the scene after Daniel was shot. These officers should be FIRED!!! A suspension is not good enough. That is what you get for falling asleep on the job, or even drinking on the job, but NOT for killing somebody. This calls for a termination of BOTH officers. They CANNOT be trusted on the streets again. We do not want this happen again to someone else. A life was taken because of them. Don't let them get away with murder. They should not be allowed to carry a gun or wear a badge again. Since this whole case has been looked at in pieces and parts, this part is about 2 officers taking this matter in their own hands from the very beginning and making a lot of very bad decisions that evening. They did what they wanted to do, with high emotions involved. The smart thing to do, would have been to get a third party involved and let them handle it. Again, if these 2 officers would not have even been at Daniel's house that evening, he would still be alive today. These are 2 veteran police officers, it's not like a rookie making a wrong decision. These officers knew better, and had time to think about it before they even went to Daniel's house. It was not a hot pursuit. It wasn't a life or death situation. After all Dan Ficker had been gone from the Mindek's house for over 6 hours. TERMINATE them and show the citizens of Cleveland this kind of behavior will not be tolerated by the City of Cleveland and the Cleveland Police Department. This is your chance to do what is fair and morally right.
