Challenge the way that I think about gender, sex, and sexuality and it's social constructions.
Challenge the way that I think about gender, sex, and sexuality and it's social constructions.
The Issue
So many of us get staggered amongst all of the various causes that according to the world are all completely separate. We don't often equate how race, gender, sex, sexuality, class, religion and so many other things are interrelated. If we want to end discrimination against gay rights in this country, we have to stop the way we think about the constructs of gender. If we want to end racism, we have to stop associating it with class or worth. If we want to advance gay rights, we have to understand the interconnections it has to masculinity and how we encourage men to hate their feelings and emotions.
We have to understand that in order to end sex traffiking within our world, we have to stop the objectification of women in our media, and the taboo nature of our conservative institutions that don't want to talk about women's equality, sexuality, or how thei fear my be the impetous to such horrible atrocities throughout our world.
So challenge yourself to question everything. It's not enough to work in opposition to something in the way you believe it should be done. Because to work in opposition to something, is still playing by the rules set forth by those who are most privilidged. We have to think completely outside of the box and absorb things from a new, more whole perspective which I believe ought to be a human perspective.
Therefore I ask you to take a pledge that dedicates yourself wholly to reaching beyond the common conceptions of our world. Pledge to transcend your ignorances and prejudices to find the greater parts of one another. Discover the beauty in life through the diversity of the world. And Pledge above all else, to seek out the greater humanity that exists within every person.
