CATTLE & CALVES STARVED AND CRUSHED TO DEATH! AUSTRALIAN DAIRY FARMER, RODERICK NEIL MITCHELL HAS THE BLOOD OF 300-400 ANIMALS ON HIS HANDS. HIS CRIMES DATE BACK TO 2007.

 

NOW MITCHELL IS ON TRIAL FOR HIS SICKENING ACTS OF BRUTALITY TOWARDS HUNDREDS OF HIS ANIMALS.  IF ONLY THE AUTHORITIES HAD OF STEPPED IN AND DEALT WITH THIS MAN YEARS AGO.

NEVER BEFORE HAS ANY PERSON IN AUSTRALIA FACED MORE THAN 200 CRUELTY CHARGES, UNTIL NOW!  FORMER TASMANIAN (AUSTRALIA) DAIRY FARMER RODERICK NEIL MITCHELL IS NOT ONLY SADISTIC, BUT HE IS NOW INFAMOUS AND WILL FOREVER BE REMEMBERED FOR HIS UNSPEAKABLE CRIMES TOWARDS CATTLE AND CALVES.

Mitchell, formerly a dairy farmer at Redpa in Tasmania's north west, currently faces more than 200 charges under Tasmania's Animal Welfare Act 1993 (amended). The matter has been before the Magistrates' Courts in Hobart since early 2007, yet Mitchell has never been properly dealt with.

It is alleged that between 300 and 400 cows and calves died at Mitchell's hands, from neglect, starvation, or alternatively, he is reported to have dropped them from the full height of a front end loader or rammed them with a hay baler. Most of the charges are under Section 8 (Cruelty to Animals) of the Act or Section 9 (Aggravated Cruelty).

Mitchell has escaped penalty to date because he is represented by clever lawyers, and/or he simply fails to appear on court dates listed. On one occasion in December 2009, he submitted a medical certificate stating he had fallen from a tractor and injured his back, and on the same days posted on his Facebook page that he was 'going out to get a hangover'. 

This petition calls for Mitchell to prosecuted to the full extent of the law, a lengthy and appropriate custodial sentence (not suspended), and a lifetime ban to be nationally enforced preventing him from having any contact with any animal as provided for in the Act.

Dear Ministers and other relevant parties

I refer to the matter of former dairy farmer Roderic Mitchell, currently on trial in the Burnie Magistrates' Court (Australia) of approximately 200 charges, mostly cruelty to animals and aggravated cruelty. We note that this case has been ongoing since 2007, and that Mitchell has yet to be properly dealt with. Mitchell is alleged to have killed more than 300 cows and calves in this period, some by starvation and neglect, and reportedly some by dropping from a front end loader and ramming with a hay baler.

These charges have never been dealt with, partly because Mitchell can afford expensive lawyers, and partly because he has simply failed to attend hearings. On one occasion he submitted a medical certificate from Victoria claiming to have injured his back, yet posted on his Facebook page on the same days that he was 'going out to get a hangover'. The previous month he submitted a certificate claiming a gastric illness and travelled over 120km to obtain that certificate. He provided no explanation at all for his failure to appear in January 2010 and had to be extradited from Victoria.

It is understood that the case has so far cost the Tasmanian taxpayer well in excess of $100,000. We note that there are no 'failure to appear' charges listed, however.

The community is outraged by the Tasmanian legal system which has failed these animals so badly. As matters stand this man is free to continue working with animals despite this appalling cruelty and this is clearly unacceptable by any standards. The community demands that a lengthy and appropriate custodial sentence, not suspended, be imposed in this, arguably one of the worst cruelty cases on record in the country, and that a ban in accordance with s43 of the Animal Welfare Act 1993 (amended) be imposed for life, and that this be nationally enforced.
