California Students for the Dream Act

Dear Senator Feinstein,

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to push for a vote in the Senate on the DREAM Act. As a student in the state of California, it is my firm belief that the passage of this act is vital to the continual thriving existence of our American democracy and its continuing role as a leader on the global stage.
As a student, I am at the forefront of many opportunities, both in the present time and in the future. Unfortunately, as a consequence of our fiscal crisis I face deprivation of these chances to improve my life. I am confronted daily with a lack of money for running our clubs and athletic events, the reduction in services such as libraries, public transportation, and available classes, as well as occasional complete shutdowns of aid. These current economic difficulties only strengthen my resolve that the passing and implementation of the DREAM act is urgent, since they increase my appreciation for what is available to me as a legal resident.
At the moment there are many talented students whose gifts and skills are wasted due to the bureaucratic barriers that they face. As undocumented students, they are held back from improving their skills and talents through higher education while contributing much needed tax revenue for the cash-strapped state of California, despite their long term residence in this state.
The DREAM Act will nurture undocumented students’ skills and talents and will allow them to become the scientists, doctors, nurses, teachers and artists that are the building blocks of a strong and vibrant economy. As President Obama said in his address to Congress, creating an educated workforce will stimulate our economy through long term changes rather than short lived quick fixes. That’s why Senator Feinstein, as your constituent and California student I urge you to push for broad legislative support of the DREAM Act.
