The intersection at Parkside Avenue and Ocean Avenues in Brooklyn needs a safety redesign!
A major point of entrance and egress to Prospect Park, this corner is also a remarkably dangerous intersection for pedestrians and bicyclists (as some of us know who have experienced traffic crime there). Church Avenue & Ocean Avenue has had calming implemented as has Empire Blvd and Ocean Avenue. It's time to bring improvement and safety to the corner of Parkside & Ocean; a corner that falls in the path of thousands of pedestrians who come and go each day from the Parkside Avenue Q/B station.
Please sign this petition and circulate it among concerned neighbors and friends who know this intersection. It will be delivered to Senator Eric Adams' office and to the staff of Councilman Mathieu Eugene. This petition will circulate until 6/15/11.
The Parkside & Ocean Avenue intersection can be a safer place to cross the street!
Traffic Calming Plan Implementation Assistance at Parkside & Ocean Avenues
Dear Councilperson & Senator;
I recently spoke with members of your staff regarding a hit and run pedestrian traffic accident that a family member had while visiting me. A car turned left through a pedestrian walklight at Parkside & Ocean. Luckily my loved one was not hurt badly although she did require a trip to the emergency room and cat scans to her head. A witness said the car turned quickly, without slowing, through the walklight. The accident was a hit and run.
I have lived at the corner of Parkside & Ocean Avenues for six years and during that time, have witnessed a variety of traffic incidents and crimes, most of which have gone unticketed. Someone close to me falling victim to traffic crime has led me to start this petition to collect the signatures of concerned neighbors and area residents (and New York City residents) who are also deeply concerned about safety and traffic management at this corner.
As I wrote in the petition introduction:

Thank you for your continued attention to the situation at the corner of Parkside & Ocean Avenues.
Sincerely,
Madeleine Fix-Hansen
