Bank of America announced this weekend it would charge their customers $5 per month to use their debit card.

Not only is this fee outrageous after billions of dollars in bailouts to Bank of America and as their customers are struggling in this economy, this fee increase comes less than one month from Bank of America’s announcement they plan to lay-off 30,000 employees.

Senator Dick Durbin said Bank of America, the largest bank in the United States, would make $1 billion off of the fee increase, and the bank raked in $2 billion in profits last quarter alone. While Bank of America is profiting, the United States economy faces an unemployment crisis. In Iowa alone, over 100,000 people are out of work, with 2,300 people losing their jobs in August.

How can Bank of America justify putting 30,000 more Americans out of work?

Bank of America’s plan to pad company profits hits the economy on two fronts: Hitting consumers with fee increases and putting tens of thousands of hard-working Americans out of work. We just can’t afford both.

Sign this petition to tell Bank of America no debit card fees hitting consumers until they cancel plans to lay-off employees. And visit www.jobsfirst2012.org to join the grassroots movement to demand job creation now.

Tell Bank of America: No $5 Debit Card Fee Until Lay-Off Plans Canceled

Greetings,

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Bank Of America.

----------------
Dear Bank of America -

Your company announced this weekend you will charge your customers $5 per month to use your debit card.

Not only is this fee outrageous after billions of dollars in bailouts to your company and as your customers are struggling in this economy, this fee increase comes less than one month from your announcement you will lay-off 30,000 employees.

Senator Dick Durbin said this week you will make $1 billion off of the fee increase, after posting $2 billion in profits last quarter alone. While you are profiting, the United States economy faces an unemployment crisis. In Iowa alone, over 100,000 people are out of work, with 2,300 people losing their jobs in August.

How can you justify putting 30,000 more Americans out of work?

Your plan to pad company profits hits the economy on two fronts: Hitting consumers with fee increases and putting tens of thousands of hard-working Americans out of work. We just can’t afford both.

That is why Jobs First 2012, www.jobsfirst2012.org, created this petition. No debit card fees hitting consumers until you cancel plans to lay-off 30,000 employees.
