Around 1.5 million minks and 2000 chinchillas are killed for their fur each year in Sweden. Twenty years ago there were about 500 fur farms in Sweden; today there are only 75 mink farms left and no fox fur farms at all, thanks to the hard work of anti-fur activists.

The Animal Rights Alliance ("Djurrättsalliansen") has revealed widespread cruelty at the Swedish mink farms. Photos taken at the farms show mink that have bitten each other to death and cages containing the bodies of dead animals.

Dear Sir,

I am appalled that in Sweden it is still legal to raise and kill animals for their fur, when more and more countries have introduced or are considering introducing bans. Furthermore, the recent investigation by the Animal Rights Alliance (Djurrättsalliansen) has revealed shocking images of the actual conditions of mink on mink farms.

Fur production is a vicious and cruel industry that subjects animals to painful and agonizing conditions. Helpless animals that are confined to small cages undergo severe stress as a result of imprisonment. Animals suffer psychologically, displaying neurotic behaviors such as pacing, circling, and throwing themselves against the sides of their wire cages. They suffer injuries including self-mutilation, painful diseases, and neglect.

As undercover investigations have progressively revealed the horrors of the fur industry, people have started to take a stand against fur. Only recently, the Swedish animal rights group Djurens Rätt presented the Ministry of Agriculture with 107 471 signatures against fur production. The majority of Swedish people do not want fur farms in Sweden.

The fur farm trade is an industry that brings only shame to the nation. There is no excuse for supporting animal cruelty. Other European countries have already banned fur farming. Sweden must make the raising and killing of animals for their fur illegal.

I ask that you please implement an immediate ban on Sweden's fur production and on the fur trade !
