How We Won

Jan 19, 2010

Both T-Mobile and AT&T have responded to your concerns by figuring out ways to expedite most donations made via text message to Haiti relief. More than $10 million of aid will be released thanks to these companies shifting their policies. Thank you for singing this petition and helping get much needed funds to the people of Haiti as quickly as possible.

Why This Is Important

UPDATE: T-Mobile will deliver all funds this week! That means that AT&T is the only major carrier that hasn't figured out how to rush customers donations to Haiti. Sign the petition and tell AT&T to stop delaying donations now!

So far more than $16 million has been donated to earthquake relief in Haiti via text message, but those donations are being delayed because major phone carriers usually don’t release funds until after you pay your bill. That means at least one billing cycle before the money actually gets sent to charity.

Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile have already realized this is a problem and are fronting the money – making it available immediately to the relief efforts.

AT&T hasn’t started fronting money and millions of dollars in aid given by customers of AT&T isn’t likely to get to Haiti any time soon.

Please, write to AT&T and tell them to join their competitors and release all donated funds immediately.

Don’t Delay Donations to Haiti

Greetings,

I am writing today because I want your company to join Verizon and Sprint in fronting the money given to Haiti earthquake relief efforts via text message to the organizations chosen by your customers.

The people of Haiti can’t wait for your billing cycles and accounting procedures.

The right thing to do is to release the money immediately so that we can bring as much aid as quickly as possible to the people of Haiti. Your customers have shown unprecedented generosity and I hope you will honor their giving and stop all delays in payment immediately.

American's are breaking records for text message based donations and I hope that you will make sure their money goes to help those in need as quickly as possible.
