Texas Governor Rick Perry has invited the governors of all 50 states – including yours – to join him for a Day of Prayer sponsored by and featuring prominent anti-gay groups. By attending, your governor will be endorsing this hateful event.

"The Response: A Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis" will be held on August 6 in Houston. Several rabidly hateful anti-LGBT organizations, including the American Family Association (AFA), the International House of Prayer, and TheCall, are sponsors:

- The Southern Poverty Law Center officially lists the AFA as a "hate group." One of its leaders, Bryan Fischer, has implied that homosexuality led to Nazism and blamed gays for the Holocaust.

- Both the International House of Prayer and TheCall are closely tied to anti-LGBT pastor Lou who helped stir up an anti-gay frenzy in Uganda led to a bill that would make being gay a crime punishable by death.

- And one of the event’s leaders played a central role last year in ousting three Iowa state Supreme Court justices who ruled in favor of marriage equality.

Make sure your governor knows that you oppose any effort to legitimize bigotry by joining Gov. Perry in Houston. Ask your governor to boycott this hateful event!

Boycott Gov. Perry’s Anti-LGBT Day of Prayer

Dear Governor,

Texas Governor Rick Perry is sending a message of hate and intolerance by inviting all U.S. governors to a day of prayer sponsored by groups that seek to demonize lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans, their families, and their allies on a daily basis.

Groups that extol hate toward any one community of people shouldn't hijack religious values and I don't think you should legitimize their views by recognizing or attending this event.

I urge you to decline Governor Perry's invitation. Doing so will send a critical message that you do not support these groups or their activities.

Respectfully,
