Stop harassing, evicting, & taking property of homeless persons in Fresno

Greetings, advocates for the homeless

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Mayor Ashley Swearengin.

We residents of Fresno, who represent progressive, faith-based, and other community organizations, wish to send a message to the Mayor of Fresno and hope you will support it too. We request of our mayor 1) that the city stop harassing homeless persons on the streets of Fresno, stop disrespecting them, and stop taking their shelters (tarps, tents, sleeping bags and warm clothing); 2) that future City of Fresno evictions and taking of homeless persons' property STOP, e.g. on Sta. Clara Ave., in the "H" and Palm area, and throughout the city; 3) that, immediately, the City of Fresno open its warming shelters not made available since January, 2011, with freezing temperatures continuing since Oct, 2011 to the present. Costs to demolish encampments (how many times?!), costs to hospitals for many more cases of serious illnesses are huge and much, much more than the costs to keep open these warming centers; and 4) that the City Council of Fresno pass the proposal for safe and legal campsites given to City Councilman Oliver Baines.
