Who is Florinda?
Florinda is the mother of U.S. citizen children, and is at risk of deportation because of the notorious “Secure Communities” program. “Secure Communities” puts local police at work enforcing immigration law - misusing local resources and undermining of community/police relations. U.S. citizens, babies and kids are separated from their parents and family members because of “Secure Communities.”
Florinda Lorenzo-Desimilian, a Prince George’s County Maryland mother of three (Kathy 10, Luis 5, and Rafa 19 months), was arrested in her home by local police on a misdemeanor charge of selling $2 phone cards out of her apartment window without a license.
Florinda was booked at the county jail. During booking, she was fingerprinted. Local police sent her prints to the FBI who in turn notified ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement). ICE ordered her detained and is now trying to deport her.
Florinda has lived and worked in the U.S. for 7 years, where her two younger children were born and where Kathy and Luis go to school. Kathy wants to be a scientist and a doctor, she is now fluid in English and is already thrilled thinking about University. Luis dreams of being a soccer player and is also known in school for his artistic talents, he also admires his teacher and wants to be a professor some day. Rafa looks up to his brother and kicks the ball around as they practice together, that is when he is distracted from his toy racing cars. A hard-working Langley Park family, their lives are on the verge of destruction because of ICE’s “Secure Communities” program and our broken immigration system.
Keep Florinda and her family together. Ask ICE to stop Florinda’s deportation. We are a community knit together. Florinda’s children are our children and Florinda’s future is our future.
Ask President Obama to save Florinda and halt ICE’s “Secure Communities” program.
Dear President Obama,
I write with an urgent request to immediately halt ICE´s “Secure Communities” program and stop the deportation of its victims. I ask that you stop breaking families apart and rectify the current policy that is responsible for separating U.S.citizens, babies and kids from their parents and families.
By systematically criminalizing innocent, hard working human beings and promoting a policy of persecution and fear, the ”Secure Communities” program that your administration is implementing is destroying our communities, polarizing our society and endangering the legitimacy and credibility of our public safety officials and authorities.
Two victims of the “Secure Communities” program are Florinda Lorenzo-Desimilian, a Prince George’s County Maryland mother of three (Kathy 10, Luis 5, and Rafa 19 months) and Maria Bolaños, the hardworking mother of Melisa, a 21-month-old. They have deportation hearings early next year. Please stop their deportations.
I ask you to stand up for justice and liberty by addressing immigration in a responsible, humane and sensible way. It is clear that our immigration system is broken, it is also clear that “Secure Communities” is not a solution.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
