In January 1990, Pope John Paul II issued a proclamation declaring that animals have souls.

Animal cruelty escalates in our society; many studies have proven that animal cruelty also links to violent crimes ranging from serial killers (they first started off with animals then graduated to children and adults), to domestic violence.  Please pray to open people's hearts for compassion - that people stop dog fighting (which often distribute illegal weapons and narcotics in such rings to communities and children), and other acts of violence. Please pray that people stop farm factory cruelty-animals kept in cages so small they cannot move, and forced to live in their own excrement so horrific their lungs burn from the ammonia fumes. Daily doses of antibiotics to keep them alive in pure filth gave rise to antibiotic resistant organisms including MRSA (which kills more people than AIDS) and VRE; so contagious are these infections, merely TOUCHING the raw meat can bring infection through a micro-crack on the skin or rubbing one's nose. MRSA is epidemic and VRE is rising. So is even the more deadly form, CRE costing the health care system billions of dollars.

A few public words toward animal welfare will do so much good for humanity, and that animals, too, are all God's creatures and deserving of compassion, for they too feel pain and fear like we do. Good Christians are kind to animals.

Hepatitis E In Europe: Pigs Or Pork The Problem

ScienceDaily (Sep. 4, 2007) — Hepatitis E virus infections can be fatal in pregnant women, but until recently doctors thought the disease was confined to China, India and developing countries. Now Europeans are also contracting the disease here, according to scientists.

Hepatitis E is a fecal-oral disease. Pigs live in their own excrement so if one pig has Hepatitis E-they ALL get it due to confined living spaces, sharing each others' feces and urine.  Hepatitis is a special virus-each is housed with a tough shell so ordinary cooking will NOT kill it and neither will freezing: You have to autoclave (sterilize) the meat for about 20 minutes to kill hepatitis. If it was found in Europe, I have no doubt it is also in the USA but of course they won't check on that.

Animals that are highly stressed, living in their own excrement, in the filthiest conditions combined with multiple wounds (much of it from abusive man handling), gives rise to antibiotic resistant diseases and their reduced immune system is responsible for bird and swine flus (chicken, turkey and pig farms)-so much as one animal gets it, they ALL do. Quickly.  In fact, turkeys/birds/swine can even catch swine flu from people!
