A recent undercover investigation at Sun Pet Ltd. - a wholesale animal dealer that supplies animals to PETCO and PetSmart - reveals outrageous abuses and deeply disturbing conditions. One investigator documented cruel, extremely crowded, and filthy conditions that forced animals to eat, sleep, urinate, and defecate all in the same tiny space as well as the violent killing and rough handling of birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, mice, and rats. One female worker put live hamsters in a bag and bashed them against a table in an attempt to kill them—a crude process that did not kill them outright.

While Sun Pet is being investigated, PETCO and PetSmart continue to vend live animals like inconsequential objects. Please sign below to ask both stores to stop this despicable practice. For more information, please visit:

I write regarding Sun Pet Ltd., one of PETCO's and PetSmart's main suppliers. As you know, Sun Pet is currently under criminal investigation following an undercover exposé of the most vicious abuses of helpless animals.

Why are PETCO and PetSmart still peddling sentient beings as if they were mere merchandise? These animals perceive pain, fear, hunger, loneliness, and misery just as we humans do. Can PETCO's and PetSmart's executives not empathize with these terrible sentiments?

Please, I urge you to look beyond profit and end, once and for all, your sale of live animals. Trafficking animals may be legal, but that hardly means it's ethical. The recent exposé of Sun Pet - the fourth of its kind - demonstrates that torture is not the exception, but the rule. You have the power to speak out against this sort of abuse, and I urge you to exercise that right. Please stop selling animals at PETCO and PetSmart.
