Why This Is Important

As President Obama calls for fiscal restraint in domestic spending, it's more important than ever that Congress invests in a green economy that creates jobs, protects air and water and ensures a stable future for our nation.

The Wilderness Society and 33 other conservation groups recently sent Green Budget recommendations to Congress that call for an end to tax breaks for polluters, investments in green jobs, increased support for clean energy and greater protection for public lands and oceans. Invest in a green economy - end tax breaks for polluters

Greetings,

It’s more important than ever to invest in a green economy – creating green jobs and protecting the air and water that keep us healthy. As President Obama calls for fiscal restraint in domestic spending, I want to let you know that it’s critical for Congress to do everything it can to invest in a green economy. Better yet, do is in a way that’s fiscally responsible.

I believe we can create jobs and strengthen key environmental programs, all while cutting wasteful spending by nearly $20 billion per year.

The “Green Budget” recommendations that 34 conservation organizations and public interest groups recently sent to Congress call for an end to tax breaks for polluters, investments in green jobs, increased support for clean energy and greater protection for public lands and oceans. Congress should also support greater environmental education efforts.
