Using a traditional school calendar year that the majority of the USA adopts. The majority of Schools in the USA start school after Labor Day & end in June. Students get into the best universities & colleges across the country & the majority of these students have a traditional school schedule, September – June. August is the hottest month of the summer. In Colorado, Boulder County included, August has record high temperatures. This August we are experiencing the highest temperatures in decades. We believe this is a trend. High summer temperatures in school lead to poor concentration and focus. The classrooms are sweltering! The cost of energy to keep schools cool enough for students to stay focused & concentrate is higher than it would be if we started school in September rather than the hottest month of the year, August. With budget cuts, it's even more challenging. This last May, we had brisk, stormy weather through the beginning of June. This is also a consistent trend. Students do not need to be released from school in May, before Memorial Day. Can we please have our summers back?! Summer starts in June, not May. It is better for student’s summers. It is better for families. Every one we talked to in the district, including staff, teachers, parent & students do not like this schedule. If BVSD adopts a year round school schedule, w/ 3+ weeks off per quarter, August is too hot to be in school.
To Change the School Calendar Year to start after Labor Day & end in June.
