The Congo, which has been wracked by intense armed conflict for years, is a major source of the minerals we need for electronics such as iPods, iPads, and Macs.

But who is profiting off the sale of those minerals in the Congo? In many cases, it's the armed groups that have fueled a conflict that has killed five million people and led to the rape of hundreds of thousands of women as a tool of war.

Many software companies have stepped up and worked toward assuring customers that their materials are conflict-free and not contributing to violent groups' pockets. But not Apple. As massive as Apple is, it is considered one of the worst tech companies regarding conflict minerals.

The Enough Project is asking Apple to guarantee that its products are conflict-free and investigate its supply chain.

But not Apple. As massive as Apple is, according to the Enough Project, which works to end genocide and crime against humanity, it is considered one of the worst tech companies regarding conflict minerals.

Please don't allow your great products to be tainted by funding rape and violence in the Congo. First, admit that you have a problem with conflict minerals in your supply chain. Then take steps to guarantee to consumers that your technology is truly conflict-free and investigate where your components are coming from. This is not only the right thing to do for the victims of the conflict in Congo, it's also the smart PR move to be a leader on ending the use of conflict minerals.
