The Arizona State Senate is considering a bill that would exempt animal testing facilities from every single one of the state's anti-cruelty laws. This bill, written at the behest of one of the largest animal testing lab companies in the world, Covance, would give labs carte blanche to exploit animals in any way they would like, and the state of Arizona would be powerless to intervene.
Covance, Inc.already has a scary record of animal abuse, and if SB 1159 passes, they'll be able to continue their exploitative practices with far less accountability.
Please say no to SB 1159
Dear Senator,
On behalf of thousands of animals who don't have a voice, and citizens who want to protect animals from cruelty and harm, I'm asking for you to vote no on SB 1159, Amending section 13-2910, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to animal cruelty.
As you probably know, Covance, Inc., a major animal testing corporation, has a facility in Chandler. You may also know that Covance has a long history of animal abuse in the name of "science," and that the company has even been fined by the USDA for mistreating animals. If SB 1159 becomes law, Covance will not have to answer to the laws of the State of Arizona; they will not be accountable to you for how they do business in your state.
This is an important issue, and one I hope you'll consider carefully before you vote. Please, vote no on SB 1159.
