U.S. Congressman George Miller has introduced a bill that would make a real dent in our extraordinarily high unemployment rate. It would also preserve essential local government services like education, public safety, child care and building and road maintenance.

The Local Jobs for America Act would save or create at least 1 million jobs within the next two years--many of them in communities with above-average poverty and unemployment rates. It's the right investment at a critical time.

The bill needs more cosponsors to stand a fighting chance of passing in the House. So ask your Representative to sign on and strongly support the Local Jobs for America Act.

Please Cosponsor & Strongly Support the Local Jobs for America Act

Dear Representative:

As one of your constituents, I urge you to cosponsor and strongly support the Local Jobs for America Act (H.R. 4812). It's the right investment at the right time to address our nation's ongoing jobs crisis.

Since the recession set in, the economy has lost 8.2 million jobs, including many that provide vital public services in communities across the nation. The jobs crisis is devastating families. It's jeopardizing long-term economic growth and neighborhood vitality. Unless the federal government acts, even more public service jobs will be lost as state and local government complete their Fiscal Year 2011 budgets.

We urgently need a bold, well-targeted program to put Americans back to work in critical public service areas like education, public safety and infrastructure maintenance. Jobs preserved and created in such areas will support private-sector job creation, generate tax revenues and reduce spending pressures on safety net programs. A relatively modest investment now will thus contribute to long-term deficit control.

That is why I am asking you to cosponsor the Local Jobs for America Act. If you have already signed on to the bill, then please continue to do your part to support quick passage in the House.

Thank you for considering my request.

Sincerely,
