ABAI: Stop Supporting the Judge Rotenberg Center and the Torture of Americans with Disabilities
ABAI: Stop Supporting the Judge Rotenberg Center and the Torture of Americans with Disabilities
The Issue
The Judge Rotenberg Center in Canton, Massachusetts has been a source of national and international criticism for decades for their application of contingent electric shock, food deprivation and other forms of "aversives" - pain as a means of behavior modification - against children and adults with disabilities. The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture has termed these practices torture and the Department of Justice has an ongoing investigation against the Judge Rotenberg Center. The Association for Behavioral Analysis International has for years allowed the Judge Rotenberg Center to present and exhibit at their conference. This petition is aimed at sending ABAI a message that torture is unacceptable and that it is past time for them to accept their moral responsibilities and condemn aversives and the Judge Rotenberg Center.
