The President has announced a tentative health care deal that doesn't include a public health insurance option.
Insurance companies celebrated the defeat of the public option in the Senate bill. "We WIN," one industry insider said during the negotiations. "No government insurance competitor."
The President's proposal improves the affordability of health insurance premiums, limits out of pocket expenses, and curbs insurance industry abuses. But a public option is critical to protect coverage and affordability.
It leaves in place the specialdeal for Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska restricting abortion.
Send an immediate message to Congress and President Obama that any health care bill without a real public health insurance option is unacceptable.

Health Refom - Fix It and Pass It!
Dear Leader,
We applaud the President's leadership to move a health reform bill forward at this Thursday's summit. His proposal would improve the affordability and stability of health coverage, and could be passed with a simple majority in the Senate through reconciliation.
It must include a national public option plan in order to protect consumers from insurance industry abuses and skyrocketing premiums. As in interim step, it should offer a Medicare buy-in to people age 50 and older, beginning immediately.
It must also fix the draconian anti-choice provisions that will deny access to abortions especially to low-income women.
We will be watching the summit on Thursday. The public supports the public option. Tell us about it at the summit!
Fix the bills Congress has already passed, and adopt a health reform bill with a national public option now!
