Working America: stop posing as a labor organization!

Working America is the community affilate of the AFL-CIO. Its mission statement is "Working America is the fastest-growing organization for working people in the country. At 3 million strong and growing, we use our strength in numbers to educate each other, mobilize and win real victories to improve working people’s lives."

Working America uses paid canvassers to do this educating; paid canvassers who get yelled and screamed at not only at people's doors, but over the phone. If canvassers dont get enough deposited, even if it is blatantly obvious that it isn't their fault, the canvasser gets fired. They use no other way to measure the performance of a canvaser. Recently, several phone canvassers were let go from the national phone center because of this, the latest was myself who was only short of his weekly ammount by $3, which I offered to the supervisor. Now, because I had some bad luck, my wife and I face the real possiability of eviction, reposition, and homelessness.

This needs to stop. A so-called labor rights organization that fires people for so little, and uses no other way of measuring and improving canvassers' performance needs to change. What happend to job security? I thought that the AFL-CIO was working to create jobs and make sure we all have iving wages. Working America says it fights for job security, but takes advantage of current laws to fire their workers. This isn't the way any labor rights or any union should treat their workers. Please sign and show the AFL-CIO that their workers deserve more.

Organizations that purport to support workers' rights and then turn around and treat their own workers poorly need to be stopped- and exposed.

This is only one area the AFL-CIO is not a labor organization.

How about its allergy to strikes? How about its outrageous leadership pay? How about its support of the Democratic Party?
