Cancel this weekend's elephant rides

Most elephants like the one to be used for rides this weekend at Without Walls International Church in Tampa, FL are broken and trained with the use of a bullhook. A bullhook is a training device with a wooden handle attached to a sharp steel hook and poker, similar to a fireplace poker. Bullhooks are used to inflict pain.

The elephant will be crammed into a truck, dragged to the church and forced to endure endless hours of plodding in circles while carrying church members on its back.

Enough with the pain and suffering of these elphants in traveling shows and circuses. Their life is a living hell that no one can imagine. The proprietors are greedy, heartless, evil people.

This is important to me because elephants are being used & egregiously abused simply for the pleasures of humans and the elephants are being forced to do things that they would not normally do (nor do they want to do - they want to spend their time being elephants - not performers who get beat, whipped & chained). This is most definitely animal abuse and akin to slavery. To train elephants to "perform their duties", human trainers typically beat elephants, chain elephants, cage elephants and keep them undersocialized and away from their families. This must be so sad and lonely for these poor elephants. We need to be their voice and say "NO MORE! This needs to stop now!" We need to educate people on the violence and terrror that is inflicted on elephants to get them trained and forced to perform. It is an ugly chapter in humankind. But we can put our voices together and stop this for the elephants and bring about change. We need to be vigilant and unafraid to speak up for the elephants and be their voice. By signing this petition, you are taking that first step to help them. Thank you very much!!!

Peace to all Beings ... these hapless elephants should not have to suffer at the hands of callous, exploitive individuals. They deserve to live the natural lives of elephants, it's their birthright. Saint Francis of Assisi would not approve.

This is 2012 and we are now aware that animals feel not only physical pain as we do, but also have emotions such as fear, despair, joy and hope.

Why is a church whose tenets include the following:

"We believe in the sovereign rule, reign and authority of God in the life of believers. We believe that the Kingdom of God is within us and is manifested on earth as we faithfully obey Christ and His teachings."

Does this not include treating animals with kindness and compassion?

Bishop Randy White, why are elephants who have been cruelly trained and transported being exploited by the Without Walls International Church in Tampa?

Are these poor creatures being used to give rides to raise money, or for church members to have a bit of fun?

Either way, please be true to your tenets and choose a non-exploitative way of enjoying your special weekend.
