Reconsider the traffic calming plan re: Club Blvd and have city engineers incorporate the concerns and needs of multiple constituencies into another design without additional delay.

We would like a change in the current traffic calming design implementing neckdowns on Club Blvd. and to have city engineers incorporate the concerns and needs of multiple constituencies into another design without additional delay, for the following reasons:

1) The design is outdated and shortsighted - it's over 13 years old and has not accounted for changes in the city since then.

2) The design contradicts the city's comprehensive bicycle plan adopted in 2006, and does not take in consideration the safety of cyclists.

3) The design raises many questions about the massive veto power WHHNA neighborhood board has over a public, city-owned street.

We also believe that there are other ways of achieving the aims of pedestrian safety without compromising safety for bicyclists.

Dear Folks Who Have Written About the Club Blvd. Traffic Calming Plan,

Thank you so much for caring, and for writing.
It is clear to me, as a resident of Watts-Hillandale, that the neighborhood itself is split over the plan. Despite the recent 6-3 vote of the WHHNA board in favor of the current plan, I now believe that a strong majority of interested neighborhood residents would like to see a plan which incorporates the needs of cyclists, as I would. I agree that the City needs to reconsider the plan and incorporate the needs of cyclists as well as the needs of pedestrians in the neighborhood. Along with my city council colleague, Don Moffitt, another Watts-Hillandale resident, I'm planning to meet soon with City staff to discuss this.

      Again, thanks for writing.

      Best,
      Steve Schewel

This is my neighborhood! I live a block from Club Blvd. I'm a bike commuter too. Thanks a lot.

I cycle a lot. Neckdowns on Anderson were an expensive disaster. Paint can do a lot.

I use Club practically every time I bike anywhere in Durham. Please don't ignore bike safety in this redesign!

I cycle to work and around town for my health and for the environment. I don't want to die.
