Negotiate Fair Parking with the AAUP-AFT Local 6075

We, the undersigned, strongly object to Wayne State University Administration pushing through drastic increases in employee pay-as-you go parking rates from $3.50 per entry to $6.00 per entry. This affects a number of faculty and academic staff, as well as graduate employees who do not opt to pay via the automatic 5-day-a-week payroll deduction plan.

Furthermore, we object to these increases being implemented without proper consultation with faculty and academic staff representatives in the Union and in the Academic Senate.

We strongly urge WSU Administration to bargain the matter of fair parking rates with the AAUP-AFT during current contract negotiations and provide all relevant information used to justify this increase.

Faculty & staff who do not sign up for payroll deduction should not be penalized. This is especially unfair to lower paid staff (e.g., secretaries, library staff who work off shifts and week-ends). It is not safe for faculty or staff who leave WSU facilities late at night or on week-ends to walk to "lower cost" parking lots that are blocks from where they work (e.g., evening or Saturday classes, stay late to close library or gym facilities).

I am graduate student assistant that have to pay 6.00 everytime I come in. It is extremely expensive especially when you have to come in 5 days a week.

I am concerned about the way the increases were implemented with what appears to be little consultation with those to be affected and also little explanation as to the reasons for the substantial increase.

As a part time faculty member I do not come to the University daily. Parking rates should be the same for all faculty members.
