Quick Kill Bill - The ASPCA Fights for More Shelter Killing in NY....this is MORALLY WRONG!!
On Wednesday, February 15th, the NYS Assembly Agriculture Committee will take up Assembly Bill A05449A by Amy Paulin. It is expected to pass. A05449A is an ASPCA-written bill that seeks to undermine support for true shelter reform and true shelter access, a rival to Assembly Bill A07312, the Companion Animal Access & Rescue Act (CAARA) by Assembly Member Micah Kellner. The Quick Kill Bill is one that the ASPCA could claim would make a difference for the better in the lives of NY animals while actually quietly blocking actual reform and EXPANDING NY SHELTERS' POWER TO KILL.
The ASPCA written legislation contains a clause that would eliminate the legally mandated holding period for stray animals by allowing shelters to kill any animal who they found to be in “psychological pain”.
In addition, the ASPCA/Paulin bill will give shelters virtually unlimited power to decide which animals are subject to rescue and which rescue groups they want to work with, which results in even less options for these animals to find forever homes.
Please sign...we have very limited time to get the word out!! This law is extremely cruel and heartless. This Quick Kill Bill is punishing the wrong party!! We are the ones to blame. We need to first prevent this bill from passing, and secondly enact laws on animal breeding and required spaying/neutering. We need to speak up for these compassionate and loving animals, and try to not take away the little hope they currently have. Thank you!! :)
