KEEP ACCESS TO JUSTICE FREE - Help fund The Law Handbook Online

    1. Petition by

      Lea Croyden

The Law Handbook Online is a vital resource which provides comprehensive legal information to all Victorians - for FREE.

Early access to legal information enhances opportunities for prompt resolution of legal issues and improves people’s capacity to resolve legal issues. It helps reduce stress on individuals and families and helps to prevent legal problems from escalating.

The Law Handbook Online has over 10,000 visitors a week.

Funding for the website project runs out in mid-2012.

We are seeking sustainable funding for continued FREE access to justice for Victorians.

Please support our campaign by signing this petition.

Dear Petition Participants, as a result of your support we have obtained a further $110,000 from the State Attorney-General - this will keep us online until mid-2012 (6 months grace). However, the fight for ongoing funding to keep access to the Law Handbook FREE continues. Thank you for your support thus far.

I think it is essential to have an online resource abavilalbe to people so that they can access legal advice cheaply, easily and quiickly. Early access to legal information enhances opportunities for prompt resolution of legal issues and improves people’s capacity to resolve legal issues. It helps reduce stress on individuals and families and helps to prevent legal problems from escalating.

This is such a valuable resource and should be freely available to everyone, especially as the most disadvantaged people are the least likely to be able to pay for it.

Without free resources like these, the complexity of the law often means that legal knowledge is inaccessible to those without a law degree or the means to hire a lawyer. Our government is morally obliged to ensure that every citizen has free and unfettered access to this information. Let's not become a state where the only people who understand the laws are lawyers and police.

Vital up to date resource for all Victorians, especially people struggling to pay for legal advice.

The website is very helpful for students like myself to get aquinted with the law. Discontinuing it is a disservice to education
