Repeal the ban on free publications in local Meijer stores

      Lansing, MI

Earlier this month, Meijer annouced a unilateral ban on all free publications in 199 grocery stores. Free publications like the City Pulse, Greater Lansing Woman, New Citizens Press and dozens of others are an important news source for arts and entertainment coverage, public notices and more. More than 3,000 Lansing area-residents pick up the Lansing City Pulse each week at Meijer!

Thanks to the hundreds of City Pulse readers and dozens of elected officials who contacted Meijer, the grocery giant has agreed to delay removing the racks in the Lansing area until March 15, 2012. As we continue to discuss the issue with Meijer, we'll keep you posted but please keep up the calls, emails, Facebook posts and tweets. It's critically important that Meijer knows how important access to free publications is to our community.

Thank you so much for supporting the City Pulse and all of the free, local publications that make our community better.

I publish a popular regional women's magazine where 3,000 copies go through Meijer stores monthly.

The Meijers would not have wanted this for their 'GUESTS'. They must be rolling over in their graves!

There is no good reason for them to remove the papers. Moving them to the middle of the store isn't a good option and from what I have seen, this is more of a power move then a "keeping the store clean". If you want to keep the store clean, have employee's clean instead of standing around saying "Welcome to Meijer" or they could bag up some items.
