      Vergennes, VT

This property, located near the Vergennes Elementary High School, is close to Class II protected wetlands and is one of the few remaining open views into the city from Route 7.

A police station and sewage drain system is currently being considered for this property.

Please take action to secure this property for future Parks and Recreations planning.  Sign this peition and forward it to as many Vergennes residents as you know both through facebook or in an email with a link.  Together we can save our rural land.

Thank you for supporting the preservation of our few remaining rural views into the City of Vergennes. From all the comments, it's evident that many people care about this. Our goal is to get 100 online petitions by Friday March 22nd and a total of at least 500 to bring to the Vergennes City Council.

Our hope is that enough signatures will send a strong message to prevent municipal development on the New Haven Road property.

We will start canvassing neighbors for petitions this weekend. If you would like to volunteer for your neighborhood, please send an email to: VergennesResidentsCare@yahoo.com.

So many people have already commented about the numerous developed locations that are within the city limits, on which it would make more sense to build, that are similarly close to Route 7, and surrounding areas. We need this natural space, as there is so little of it within Vergennes!

I agree with others that we should look at using existing areas in the Northern Gateway District for the proposed development. I hope that the city hears us on this one.

Leave the area open for future park/nature walk opportunities. There are other properties available if the community decides we need to construct a new police station.

I'm in agreement that the northern end of the city (Kennedy Bros and surrounds) seems to provide a far better fit for municipal development than one of our few remaining tracts of open land. Once it's gone, reclamation is a rare and unlikely event. Preserving this property is well worth our support.

I'd like to see more of the underutilized north end of town on 22A utilized. Is there a need to spread out when there is already space that needs populating and upgrading? I believe the zoning plan done a few years ago recommended that the area I'm speaking of be further developed. Consolidate services; use existing sewer and water; conserve open spaces.
