It was once only fit for dog food and it needs to return to only being fit for dog food! The source areas may include the most contaminated portions of the animal, such as near the hide which is often exposed to fecal matter. This product is just pulverized cow anus for all we know. The recovered material is processed, heated and treated with ammonium hydroxide gas to kill E. coli, salmonella, and other bacteria. Food that starts off diseased is not wholesome, which means "Conducive to or suggestive of good health and physical well-being." Diseased salvage meat will never be wholesome. It's true ammonia naturally occurs in our body, so does chlorine, but in tiny tiny amounts in our stomachs, it doesn't need to be added. Cmon, ammonia has even been removed from cleaning products!!! Banning this product will lower the cost of beef which is now elevated by being cut by this filler product. When more traditional beef is produced to make the difference the larger amount of cattle and jobs will naturally offer a bulkier supply that will save on the price. Processed foods are known to cause cancer so why not create jobs by stopping this nasty fecal meat dog food ingredient from causing a a buildup of corstisol and its related inflammation and therefore a buildup of free radicals that cause cancer in our kids, neighbors, friends, families, and selves. The added benefit is that many grocery stores might bring back in store butchers, creating much needed jobs and a connection to the origins of our food. We can do this, we can enjoy meat, real meat, not the kind scrapped from what would be the t-bones and hide we would throw away if we had hunted a cow or other animal.
