The legal guardians of Eden, a baby in Kenya who was abandoned in a hospital where Ben and Meghan worked in 2006, were given permission by the Kenyan government to bring their baby to the U.S. for Christmas and the birth of her new sibling while an adoption is in process. However, the U.S. government wouldn’t issue Eden the travel visa, even though it had done so in the past. Ben was forced to stay with Eden while Meghan went home to Indiana to give birth during hospital strikes in Kenya.

Eden’s grandfather started a petition targeting US Citizenship and Immigration Services and after more than 35,000 signatures and comments of support, Tweets from Miami Dolphins player Brian Hartline and Boston Celtics rookie JaJuan Jackson, local press in TV and print, and support from Rep. Todd Rokita, Eden has been issued humanitarian parole and the family will be reunited for the holidays.

Thursday evening (December 22) we learned that USCIS has agreed to grant Eden the request for Humanitarian Parole!  Arrangements are underway for Eden and her adoptive dad Ben, to pack up in Kenya and start heading back to the US.  Although they won't be able to be home in time for Christmas, we expect that they will be back soon.

After about a month of petitioning, a Hoosier family learned just days before Christmas that they will soon be reunited.

Three-year-old Eden, a child from Kenya adopted by Ben and Meghan Wolfe of Indianapolis in 2009, was recently granted a humanitarian visa by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services...

    2. Congressman Todd Rokita of Indiana Releases a statement

      Rob Campbell
      Petition Organizer

In a statement released Friday, Congressman Rokita said "“The Wolfe family received word late Thursday that a humanitarian visa has been issued allowing Ben and Meghan Wolfe to bring Eden back to the United States. I am pleased that my office was able to work with US Citizenship and Immigration Services to help resolve this case as quickly as possible. I wish Ben and baby Eden safe travels home and the whole Wolfe family a very Merry Christmas.”

We thank Congressman Rokita and his staff for their help throughout this entire process. They have stuck with us from the time of the first difficulties with the travel visa all they way to getting the Humanitarian Parole for Eden.

    4. Good News on the Kenya Side - Major step forward in the adoption process

      Rob Campbell
      Petition Organizer

The Kenyan adoption committee has approved the adoption of Baby Eden by the Wolfe family! There are still several court dates and actions that will take several more months, but this was a key milestone in the process. Unfortunately this action in Kenya does not change the need for Eden to have permission from the USCIS to enter the US.

However, passing this milestone should further reassure our government that Eden will be well cared for and have a secure home and family life when she is finally allowed to enter. Please continue to spread the word and pray that USCIS will act quickly and finally reunite the Wolfe family.

Wow we have already had our 1000th person to sign our petition. The outpouring of support is so heartwarming to our family. Thank you so much! Here is some advice from change.org that they sent when we reached this milestone:

"This is a huge milestone or your campaign! 1000 signatures means that you have a campaign that has widespread support. Now it’s time to take your petition to the next level.

Start by getting some press attention! News outlets are always looking for stories that are interesting to their readers. And your campaign definitely is! So, write a letter to the editors of your local paper and tell them what you and your supporters have been doing. For tips on how to write a letter that will get published, read: http://www.ehow.com/how_8921_write-letter-editor.html"

Some of you may have this type of gift. If you feel moved to do so, please go write (pun) ahead!

Be aware, your "letter of the law" treatment of this poor young girl have may have emotionally damaged her - perhaps for the rest of her life. It has certainly done an injustice to her family. What an awful introduction to "the Land of the Free."

This speaks loudly to advocate a case by case assesment of future situations.

Please be sure this family all receive the best counseling as soon as they are together.

Be human - it's your legacy.

She will not be living here illegally and they are trying to do what's best for her as well as follow the rules. Please allow her to come here so the process can be finalized and make a difference in their lives. Also to separate her from what she considers her parents would not be advised psychologically. In the US the states' department of social services they do everything they can to keep families together for the well being of the child and family. Why can't the federal government do the same?
