U.S. Fish & Wildlife: Stop Using Tax Dollars to Declare War on Cats

    1. Petition by

      Best Friends Animal Society

On November 5, 2011, U.S. Fish & Wildlife personnel will be offering an all-day workshop in Hawaii, entitled “Influencing Local Scale Feral Cat Trap-Neuter-Release Decisions.” This workshop will provide attendees with the training and tools necessary to undermine non-lethal strategies being considered by elected officials during the decision-making process.

A full-day workshop declaring war on cats is a dreadful waste of tax-paying funds.  Additionally, the lethal control of animals is ineffective and publicly unpalatable. The USFWS should begin promoting non-lethal alternatives for addressing wildlife concerns -- specifically, the trap-neuter-return of free-roaming cats.

USFWS responds by claiming they have no stance on feral cats, and yet their employees are presenting in a clearly anti-TNR workshop? Check out the blog post and post a polite response asking them to stop supporting the killing of feral cats.

I am an active believer in pro-choice. Every day I am judged&& labled as a supporter of murder. My response is the same here as it is to that accusation ever day:You claim that the taking of a life is murder, however every day animals all around the world die because of human's selfishness&& greed... I say that taking the life of an animal is murder... how is killing a living breathing creature for personal gain any better then killing a person that isn't even born? I've long since given up on the entire human race

we are man-kind and do not want our tax dollar spent on barbaric killing of domestic animals. There are better ways: TNReturn, public education on spay/neuter, develop birth control medication/rabies control medication as has been done for other creatures. Americans are too intelligent to have to kill. What kind of people are we employing at the Fish & Wildlife????

It's time for people to start being responsible and have their animals neutered & spayed.

Even if your going to feed strays please find a way to get them fixed. There is too much suffering in the world, some people have no compassion or regard for lower life - these too are Gods's creation's.

I have four rescued cat's and I can't tell you how enjoyable they are.- animals are very much under rated!!

It is a temporary "fix" where spaying and neutering is a more permanent f ix to your problem.
