Let us actively preserve our national heritage for future generations of Americans. We call for Native American Culture Day. In order to preserve and celebrate indigenous cultures of the United States we petition for a holiday that turns away from the darkness of past exploitations and instead celebrates Native American culture and heritage.

I wish to preserve and celebrate the indigenous cultures of the United States and likewise turn from celebration of past exploitations.

This is important to me because Columbus didn't "discover" the Americas, he simply ran into it on his way to find a trade route to India. The aborigines of the Americas should be honored and respected for who they were and are, and how well they lived with the land; preserving it instead of ruining it with "civilization". The new explorers only brought ruin and death with them. Their attitudes of superiority, their diseases, and their greed all spelled the destruction of many of the indigenous cultures.

As a Choctaw Native American, I am sickened at the united states' glorification of a man who is responsible for the slaughter of my people. In defense of my tribe and the tribes of other Native Americans I demand that the tradition of 'Columbus Day' - which misinforms countless United States citizens about the true story of Columbus - be abolished.

There is no goodly reason to perpetuate the lie of Columbus "Discovering" America. This is a traditional "value" we can live without.
