Remove Chick-Fil-A from Coffman Union

Chick-Fil-A's anti-gay stances have long been known, but now that they have explicitly stated their animus towards gay people, the University of Minnesota should take a stand and kick them off campus, especially because voters in Minnesota will face a marriage discrimination amendment this fall.

    4. Time to set a new goal!

We've hit my initial goal of 1,000 supporters in just about 4 days. The support behind this movement is just incredible. I think it's time we set a new goal: 2,500 signatures!

Please keep passing the petition around to your friends. Also, if you have a connection to the University, please try to keep this discussion active on campus. I've received word today that pressure is mounting on campus to take action. If you want to do more, contact your representatives in University student or faculty/staff governance and the good folks at CMU/Minnesota Marketplace and let them know how you feel.

      Thank you!

Wow. I'm blown away by the support this petition has gained since it began on Sunday. We've now blown past the 500 signature mark. This petition has caught the eye of the local media, so tune in tonight at 9 PM on FOX9.

On a side note, I've heard a report that Chick-Fil-A was egged today. Please keep our campaign against the restaurant clean. Thanks!

Thank you all for your support! We've reached a milestone of 100 signatures in about a day. Please spread the word to friends and other supporters. With your help, I believe we can achieve our goal: see a new food vendor in the space now occupied by Chick-Fil-A at Coffman Union.

The University of Minnesota has been on the 'front lines,' fighting discrimination, for decades. It would be a shame if the University continued to support such a bigoted company after all the work that has been done toward changing the social climate on campus and in Minneapolis as a whole.

I don't think the U should allow businesses that promote hate and are anti civil rights. It's fine to have opinions, but if a company came out as saying that people of color or women shouldn't have equal rights, I would think a university wouldn't stand for it. This is the same thing. Please get them out of there.
