Stop awarding Apple Inc broad patents that stifles competition

This issue effects the electronics consumer market as a whole. Apple is sitting on broad patents and no longer innovating. They have been suing major competitors to maintain control over their monopoly in the mobile and tablet market, and winning.

One such example of a patent that is very concerning is Patent no. D670,286, which awarded Apple with a patent for a "portable display device” with an external shape that is a rectangle with rounded corners. Allowing such broad patents closes the door on competition and means that a company no longer has to make the best product to stay competitive. They only need to keep down the competition by disallowing any reasonable design to compete in the same market as the patent holder.

The USPTO needs to stop allowing these ridiculous patent claims. We ask that the USPTO review the current patents held by Apple Inc and reconsider their award of patents that do not help the electronics industry. Sign this petition to let the USPTO that this carelessness is hurting the consumer.

I don't like hypocrites and I don't like Apple because of the way they create crazy fans who think they know everything. Apple is trying to destroy their competition with a product that I don't like and Apple products do not allow for much freedom.

Just because apple has the patent doesn't mean they deserve it. There are many phones and tablets that could've been referenced as prior art.

intellectual freedom should exist, knowledge should be shared, the rich should not profit

because Apple is trying to put every other competitor (consumer choice) out of business meaning consumers will have less choice!!

A rectangle with rounded corners is NOT an Apple innovation. Mobile devices that fit that description had been around long before this patent was granted. In view of this, the awarding of this patent is clearly the result of a lack of due diligence by the patent office in assessing the claim's validity.
