John Wesley wisely said, “Though we cannot think alike, may we not love alike? May we not be of one heart, though we are not of one opinion? Without all doubt, we may. Herein all the children of God may unite, notwithstanding these smaller differences.”
Church rules that cause harm to our LGBTQ brothers and sisters are unjust and discriminatory. Jesus told us to love our neighbors, and that means we are to love ALL people. There is no place for discrimination in our Christian faith.
Bishop Melvin Talbert has recently spoken out, encouraging the church and clergy to be obedient to biblical teachings of love and equality rather than church rules which discriminate and prohibit same-sex marriage.
Voices of disagreement were quick to respond. They are asking that the Council of Bishops censure Bishop Talbert and other clergy who agree with him.
We want the Methodist Council of Bishops to know that...
We are taking a stand for loving our neighbors.
We are taking a stand for equality & justice.
We are taking a stand with Bishop Talbert.
