Decline the Resignation of Chancellor Holden Thorp

    1. Petition by

      Graduate and Professional Student Federation

      Chapel Hill, NC

Approximately 40% of the UNC-Chapel Hill student population is comprised of graduate and professional students. During his tenure as Chancellor, Holden Thorp has worked diligently to increase funding for graduate programs and enact policies that help us succeed. We would like UNC-System President Thomas Ross to decline the resignation of Chancellor Thorp and ask him to continue serving our institution.

Chancellor Holden Thorp has provided superb leadership. The unfortunate scandals that have occurred recently are not an adequate reason to lose his leadership. Given these problems and budget cuts, we need his leadership now more than ever.

The Chancellor has practiced due diligence and integrity in all challenges he has faced at the University. His resignation will only herald an end, not a beginning, to a promising future for UNC. Allow him to move forward, hire an assistant chancellor to work on the challenges, so Chancellor Thorp can concentrate on what he does best: making UNC a great public institution for all.

I truly believe that Chancellor Thorp is an amazing person and proffessor and has been put in many difficult situations during his term. I think he has responded to these situations appropriately and with grace. Please do not accept this resignation.
