Fix myUCF class registration / Notify when classes have seats available

Getting in to classes is an ongoing battle for UCF students, whether it’s finding a class that the times fit, getting in to the right section, or even just landing the one class you need to graduate, myUCF is a major headache for most of us.

After experiencing the frustration firsthand for three years and seeing Orientation students brought to tears when their schedules didn’t work as an O-Teamer, I knew there had to be a better answer than "just keep searching myUCF daily... maybe it will open up."

To fix this, I created U Could Finish, a website that texts you when a class has seats open up. It had over 500 visitors within just six days of it's launch, showing how bad the student body needs this.

However, last Friday (June 8) U Could Finish was blocked by UCF’s servers without any notice. This was an intentional block that sabotaged all access to the website on-campus and blocked the service from checking myUCF. At time of writing (June 12) UCF still won't talk to me at all. No reason has been given for the block, or even notification if it is permanent.

This petition is requesting that UCF either:

1) Provide reason for the sabotaging block being put in place, and explain how they are going to improve the issues outlined of class registration.

2) Remove the block from U Could Finish and allow it to continue to notify students when classes open.

EDIT: Much has happened since petition was first created, please see http://ucouldfinish.com for full updates on the situation. The university has since explained why the block was placed (policy regarding financial gain without written permission and accusations of disrupting university systems) and has brought fourth sanctions against me including 3 semesters of disciplinary probation. A great article on the situation has been released by The Chronicle of Higher Education here: http://chronicle.com/blogs/wiredcampus/student-is-sanctioned-for-creating-class-registration-web-site/38515

This petition stands for support of innovation and collaboration rather than closing doors and punishment. Thank you all so much for your continued support!

Tim Arnold has done so much work to better the community at UCF, this being one of them. UCF needs to get over its power trip and encourage entrepreneurial activity such as U Could Finish.

As an Enterprise Software functional-Lean Six Sigma-CMMI practitioner, UCF needs to re-evaluate and embrace the innovative invention. I would hire this young one in a heartbeat to effectively integrate systems.

      A) This is a great idea B) UCF always has punishments that are way over the top and it doesn't surprise me they gave a senior three semesters of academic probation. If they don't overturn switch schools there is nothing that UCF hates more than losing money.

As an alumnus of UCF, the service he has created can personally impact so many students in such a positive way. Why chastise him?
