The TSA , right now takes personal property not allowed on an airplane and tosses into the garbage.  I would like to make a policy change where the TSA is required to send someone's property to the Lost and Found office at the aiport where it can be picked up in a reasonable amount of time (30days) Unless the passenger gives consent to have it tossed.

AS it is now; items accidentally left at security, do get sent to the Lost and Found so it is not a stretch to ask that same effort be made to allow someone to keep an item they packed in their carryon without realizing it would not be allowed on the plane.

It is wrong to take a legal product from a passenger and just throw it away.  Sometimes the item is valuable monetarily or just sentimentally  but either way a personal item should not be allowed to just be taken away.

8 years ago, when we were traveling from Florida, an airport worker took a nail file out of my cosmetic bag and was about to throw it away. The nail file was of a posh kind, its handle encrusted with Swarowski crystals a gift from my mom...The guy's co-worker, a woman, stopped him and returned the file back to me, giving me instructions on how to send mail from the airport. Because my luggage was already on the plane, I couldn't just put the file in one of my luggage bags. I ended up mailing the item to my address, and was happy that I was given that option. This happened 8 years ago. I was more careful with what and how I pack since then, but every time I'm going through TSA check point (at least once a year), I see somebody's belongings being thrown away either without any explanation, or with some rude comments. It has to be stopped.

Taking someone's legal personal items and throwing them in the garbage amounts to theft! It's time the TSA is held responsible for their actions. Send confiscated items to lost and found. It's the right thing to do.
