Yvette Cabrera has worked as a columnist for the OC Register for more than a decade. She gave a voice to the voiceless on issues that mattered to the community - the homeless, trafficking victims, the developmentally disabled, immigrants and the working poor. She wasn't afraid to tackle difficult topics such as homophobia, and she humanized communities that are often marginalized.

The loss of Yvette's voice will be felt beyond the immigrant community and will deny these groups a voice in the county's newspaper of record. It also limits the awareness of the community at large about the issues facing their neighbors.

The economic situation is difficult and all newspapers are having a tough time, but leaving this void and eliminating this column that reflected the lives of such a large section of the community is not acceptable.

Since Ms. Cabrera has been with the Register, she has provided informative and thought provoking articles for many years. It's unfortunate to no longer have her vocal written words to read.

I was in shock when I learned that Yvette Cabrera was fired. A moderate voice who "told it as it is" is now silenced. This has made a lie of what I have been telling people, namely "The Register is not what it used to be." I was wrong. The paper is not willing to take flack from its older white readers who are angry about the fact that Latinos live among them and have a voice.

Yvette, needs to be reinstated in order to have a balanced view in the orange county regrister. She has written stellar articles that represents the views of minority communities at large whose views must be presented .

Provides a valuable service to her readers. Provides an insight on issues that are not generally covered in the Register. We need her to highlight the parts of the Orange County community that are voiceless.
